A very happy Glorious Twelfth to you from all of us at the BGA! We have marked the opening of the season with the grounbreaking launch of Aim to Sustain and an endorsement of the BGA’s efforts from none other than Lord Botham, while launching a new set of Standards to bring our nation’s wonderful grouse moors into the BGA Assurance Scheme.

There may not be many grouse about, but let’s not allow that to stop us raising a glass to this finest of gamebirds, the communities they support and the keepers who steward them. We have celebrated all that is great (and tasty) about grouse with Masterchef Finalist Juanita Hennessey and our friends at the Moorland Association. Check out the video here.

There is much to celebrate, despite the difficult scenes on many grouse moors this year. The BGA have participated in the launch of Aim to Sustain, a partnership of shooting organisations that was welcomed enthusiastically by the countryside’s peer Lord Botham. Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Lord Botham highlighted the modernising efforts of the BGA as ‘the main reason’ for game shooting’s ‘extraordinary turnaround’ in fortunes. We are excited by the potential to drive the BGA’s modernising work even further as part of our new partnership with major shooting organisations, all united in our calls for self-regulation across our community.

We can mark the start of the grouse season with another modernising step. We have rolled out our new Grouse Standard, so our unique and wonderful moorlands can access BGA Assurance Scheme and certify the provenance and sustainability of the amazing game they produce. A key development in securing the future for grouse shooting and grouse meat.

Wishing you an excellent 12th and an excellent season to come.

Best wishes
