Defib Plus

BGA Brand Partner Defib Plus tell us more about Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

Please could you tell us some of the history of Defib Plus?

Defib Plus Ltd was set up to be a benchmark in the care and support of defibrillators. It is vital that defibrillators are maintained regularly and certified as such, they are life saving, emergency, medical equipment that can substantially change the outcome of SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest). The company was formed out of a need in the sector to provide ongoing assistance to those unfamiliar with the equipment, but who recognise the importance of it.

By being a brand partner, you are showing your support for the BGA’s efforts. Why do you feel the BGA Assurance Scheme is important to the future of the shooting industry?

If game is not adopted on the high street and marketed as a natural alternative to intensively farmed foods the argument for game shooting becomes very questionable and the anti shoot lobbies may make a point that if what is shot is not consumed, it is purely a leisure activity. The more the high street adopts game, the more palatable the defence.

Why was it important for your brand to support the BGA?

I think the support is mutual. In order to get game to the table, viably, it has to be shot. £28 per bird to shoot – £2 or £3 per bird (dressed) RRP(apx). Without the former, the latter wont happen. Our aim is to ensure the 20-30 people involved in a days shooting have the best chance to survive an SCA despite the obstacles location and terrain offer for emergency access. Without defibrillation and CPR, 5 mins has reduced your survival chance by 50%

What are the biggest changes you have seen in the shooting industry over the last 5 years?

The rise of the anti lobbying campaigns and the resulting success of the likes of Chris Packham and the RSPB. Also the expansion of the debate on banning lead shot above and beyond the current wetlands ban.

Why do you feel the discount is a benefit to BGA members?

Because that, combined with 130% Capital Allowances Super Deduction Scheme that HMRC are running till 01/04/23, the 100% Tax Deductible status of equipment maintenance and the discount means it is more than something for nothing.

Can you tell us a little bit about your key plans, events and/or any new products for 2022

Our key plan in this sector is to have the initiative undertaken by the sport as a definition of good practice on shoots. Shoots are comprised of guests, family and friends, plus those who treasure the sport and come and pick-up or beat in support of the day. This is one of the few medical emergencies where anyone can make a huge difference, all they need is the equipment.
