Glaze and Gordon

Brand Partner Glaze and Gordon tell us why they started, what exciting things are coming up for them and why shooting is important to them.

Please could you tell us some of the history of Glaze and Gordon?

Glaze & Gordon is a British born equestrian and country collection that offers something a little bit different. We carefully source well-designed, stylish products from trusted artisans and boutique brands across Great Britain, Europe and the Americas. Some of which are relatively unknown, or hard to find in the UK.

Glaze & Gordon was established in 2017 by me, Becs Glaze, as my sister and I struggled to find good quality tack for our horses. We love traditional, classic styling – items that last years in their look and feel – and we just couldn’t find it. I lived in the US at the time and found the range and quality of products across the pond to be unbelievable and their technology of fabrics and design top-notch. From the huge realm of resources in the U.S. and South America we have created a line of bespoke products specifically for us, as well as bringing the hard-to-find U.S. brands to a forefront in the U.K. We are also dedicated to promoting brands from our home turf and have found some wonderful boutique brands in the U.K. and Europe to showcase, creating an irresistible amalgamation of equestrian and country items.

The experiences I have had in the city and country, in the UK and overseas, has enabled me to create a business that is based around my life-consuming hobby and passion for the countryside. I truly believe in the products and love finding hidden gems that I know our customers will love too.

By being a brand partner, you are showing your support for the BGA’s efforts. Why do you feel the BGA Assurance Scheme is important to the future of the shooting industry?

We are absolutely delighted to be involved as a brand partner with BGA! We are fully behind its efforts to secure the future of game shooting by promoting the industry’s values and the consumption of game meat. Having gone shooting with my father since I was 6 years old I understand first-hand the myriad of benefits that being involved with the countryside and country sports can bring to a childhood and beyond. I think it is vital that future generations get to share these experiences and key to this is promoting, and educating people in, the ethical, environmentally friendly, and healthy nature of the products of the sport. Central to this is underpinning the message that the shooting industry ultimately cares about the countryside and is doing all it can to protect the future of the environment.

Why was it important for your brand to support the BGA?

Glaze & Gordon has a family team behind it and each one of us is countryside obsessed, it is in our veins. Much of our childhood was spent outdoors on the family farm in Shropshire, helping feed the lambs or going beating for the shoot. I still go drag-hunting on my grey hunter as well as shooting with my dad and my husband, Steve. We are huge supporters of countryside traditions and intrinsically understand the values and merits associated with them. We want this way of life to continue and for more people to experience and appreciate it. The work that the BGA is doing to communicate the transparency of the industry and rewards of the consumption of game to a wider audience is key to this future growth.

What are the biggest changes you have seen in the shooting industry over the last 5 years?

With the growth of the internet and social media channels we think that awareness of the shooting industry has grown immeasurably over the last 10 years or so. This brings accessibility to new audiences, new retailers and more opportunities to try the sport. However, with that has come a wider scrutiny and analysis of the way in which shoots are managed, birds are kept and any waste that may occur. This is why the BGA is so important, to promote the standards set and the ‘kitemark’ of British Game and educate the public on the integrity of the industry.

We have also noticed an increase in the amount of women taking up the sport especially through membership networking organisations like The Country Girls UK, who we also have a brand partnership with. There is also an appetite for people to try new countryside brands of clothing and accessories which has been great for us. Our customers like to retain the classic styling and brands but mix in different twists into their outfits.

Why do you feel the discount is a benefit to BGA members?

We hope it will make following their sporting passions even more fun! We have handpicked durable, super quality clothing, homeware, dog and horse accessories that offer something a little bit different to what else is out there and hope that BGA members enjoy perusing the collection. They can also be assured that they are spending money with a brand that not only supports these passions, but also wants to add to the conservation of them too.

Can you tell us a little bit about your key plans, events and/or any new products for 2022?

We have many exciting products on their way for 2022 such as a new tweed range and additions to our leather accessories.  We will be promoting these throughout the year both online and at some key events – you will see us at The Game Fair!

After the success of our charity calendar last in 2021 (which supported four countryside charities including the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust and Atlantic Salmon Trust), we will be launching another this year.
