The British Game Alliance Secure First Inward Trade Mission for Game

Opening New Markets For Game

The British Game Alliance is pleased to announce its market outreach in Hong Kong was successful last month with a premium dealer coming to the U.K. for an inbound trade mission as a result of this visit. The BGA’s Commercial Director, Matt Tough and Managing Director, Tom Adams attended 20 meetings with a variety of clients in Hong Kong including retailers, wholesalers, food sourcing businesses and the Chamber of Commerce.


The BGA had 20 meetings, two with retailers ‘Dairy Farm’ and the ‘Park N Shop’ supermarkets. Both retailers expressed a keen interest in buying assured British game and the BGA is now working with a preferred distributor and putting together a proposal.


Additionally, British game will have a greater presence in Hong Kong’s fine dining market in the future. The BGA met with the Grand Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental hotels and will be returning to Hong Kong at the start of the shooting season, when British game will be showcased by Michelin-starred chefs to the executive chefs of hotel restaurant chains.


Matt Tough, Commercial Director of British Game Alliance said, “We were very much pushing on an open door. During our trip, we signed the Mandarin Oriental and Aqua Restaurants and numerous other prestigious brands will also be joining. We have a premium dealer visiting us as an inbound trade mission as a result of these meetings.”


Tom Adams, MD of British Game Alliance commented, “By working with the Department for International Trade we found the appetite for assured British game was thriving in Hong Kong, getting consistency and quality was key for these markets and that is what the BGA will be ensuring.”


This trip follows a targeted outreach overseas in order to secure new deals in export markets for British game. The BGA have spent time working with DEFRA and exporters to understand the supply chain and opportunities available, as well as working with the Department for International Trade to identify and open up markets utilising their resources and connections.


In addition to this trip, the BGA already attended Gulfood, at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 17 – 21 February 2019, which has already led to many positive conversations in the UAE. The BGA is also visiting Japan in 6-8 weeks’ time and is waiting for confirmation on planned trips to Canada and India.
